“These four weeks at Savasana have given me the opportunity to go back to basics, back to structure, back to routine and, most importantly, back to myself.”
Over my four weeks at Savasana, I’ve had the opportunity to stop, reflect and really look at myself and understand why I was making the choices I was making when it came to alcohol and drugs.
For a long time, I knew I was struggling. I knew that the highs and lows of my life were continuing to lead me back to alcohol and cocaine. But knowing I had a problem and actually accepting that I needed help were two very different things.
When I met Shahir, I instantly connected with him on both a personal and emotional level. For the first time, I felt like I could really start to understand why I was in the position I was in and, more importantly, accept that I needed help.
These four weeks at Savasana, with Shahir and the amazing team, have given me the opportunity to go back to basics, back to structure, back to routine and, most importantly, back to myself.
I’ve had time to reset my inner self and start understanding what is actually going on underneath the choices I’ve been making. I always knew my actions were affecting the people around me, but I couldn’t understand why I continued to make choices that I knew were hurting myself and others.
I think a big part of it was being in denial with myself. I could see what was happening, but I wasn’t truly ready to face it.
It wasn’t until I was given the time, space and support at Savasana that I could finally start looking at myself honestly.
My time at Savasana has given me something I desperately needed... Time with myself. Time to stop, reflect and finally be honest about where I am, how I got here, and where I want to go from here.
I’ve learnt that recovery isn’t just about stopping the alcohol and cocaine. It’s about understanding myself, understanding my choices and taking responsibility for the impact those choices have had on the people I love.
Today, I have a much clearer understanding of where I am. Tomorrow is about what I choose to achieve.
The things I want to carry with me moving forward: trust, honesty, curiosity.
Trust in myself and in the people around me.
Honesty with myself, even when the truth is uncomfortable.
And curious for myself, for my family and for the people who have stood beside me when I wasn’t at my best.
My time at Savasana haven’t magically fixed everything, but they have given me the foundation, the understanding and the tools to start building a different life.
And for that, I will always be grateful.
Much love,
M.W
